(Psittacidae; Ϯ Yellow-faced Amazon A. xanthops) Portmanteau of first name Alípio (after Prof. Alípio de Miranda-Ribeiro (1874-1939) Brazilian zoologist) and Gr. ψιττακη psittakē parrot; "Miranda-Ribeiro ... described the monotypic genus Salvatoria to distinguish the Yellow-faced Parrot ... from the "true" Amazon parrots ... However, this name is preoccupied by Salvatoria McIntosh, 1885, a genus of exogonin syllid polychaetes ... For lack of an available and potentially valid synonym, we propose to replace Salvatoria Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920 by the name: Alipiopsitta" (Caparroz & Pacheco 2006).
