DEFINITIONS
PHONYGAMMUS
(Paradisaeidae; Ϯ Trumpet Manucode P. keraudrenii) Gr. φωνη phōnē sound; γαμος gamos marriage (i.e. wedded to sound); "Barita Keraudrenii ... (Lesson & Garnot 1826); "Phonygammus Lesson and Garnot, 1826, Bull. Sci. Nat. (Férussac), 8, p. 110 — Type, by monotypy, Barita Keraudrenii Lesson and Garnot." (Mayr in Peters, 1962, XV, p. 185). The Trumpet Manucode has distinctive loud calls, accentuated by a modification of the trachea. Cracraft 1992, recognised nine diagnosably distinct species in this genus.
Var. Phonigama, Phonygama, Phonygamus.
