(Meliphagidae; Ϯ Striped Honeyeater P. lanceolata) Gr. πληκτρον plēktron spear-point; ῥυγχος rhunkhos bill; "Genus PLECTORHYNCHA, Gould. CHARACTERES GENERICI. Rostrum capite brevius, leviter arcuatum, fere conicum, et acutum naribus basalibus, operculo tectis; mandibula superiore obsolete ad apicem indentata. Alæ mediocres; remige primo brevissimo, tertio, quartoque longissimis. Cauda mediocris et æqualis. Tarsi validi; digito postico cum ungue forti, et digitum intermedium anticum excellente; digitis lateralibus inæqualibus, externo longiore, et intermedio basaliter conjuncto. ... PLECTORHYNCHA LANCEOLATA, Gould. ... throat and under surface greyish white, the stem of each feather, which ends lanceolate, pure white" (Gould 1838); "Plectorhyncha Gould, 1838 (April), Synops.
