DEFINITIONS

ENICURUS
(Muscicapidae; Ϯ White-crowned Forktail E. leschenaulti) Gr. ἑνικος henikos  singular; ουρα oura  tail; "GENRE ÉNICURE.  GENUS ENICURUS. TEMM.   ...   Pieds médiocres, tarses plus longs que le doigt du milieu, celui-ci et l'externe unis jusqu'à la première articulation; l'interne totalement libre; ongle du doigt postérieur le plus fort et arqué.  Ailes courtes, très-étagées; la première rémige courte, les deuxième, troisième et quatrième également étagées, la cinquième et la sixième les plus longues.  Queue longue, très-fourchue; les deux pennes du milieu très-courtes.   Les deux espèces connues dont ce genre est composé aujourd'hui, vivent solitairement aux bords des ruisseaux et des torrens qui descendent des montagnes; particulièrement dans les lits de ceux où le terrain est rocailleux et graveleux; ils poursuivent, en courant avec célérité, les insectes et les vers qu'ils saisissent en remuant fréquemment la queue, comme le font nos Bergeronnettes.    ...   ÉNICURE COURONNÉ. Horsfield en faisant mention de cet oiseau, qu'il classe parmi les bergeronettes dans le genre Motacilla   ...   En effet notre oiseau de Java parait former le type d'un groupe nouveau composé de trois espèces distinctes qui seront figurées dans ce recueil. Nous avons choisi pour ce petit groupe un nom générique propre à faire apprécier la forme singulière de la queue de cet oiseau.   ...   Son nom Javanais est Chinginging ou Kingking.   ...   [Pl. 534] Enicure rousse-cap."
