Gmelin normally used ‘v’ for ‘u’. J. Gmelin’s name was based on the French substantive “Souï-manga”, which dates back to the seventeenth century, and this spelling was retained by Gadow 1884, and Bds. World 1967 (although W. Sclater 1930, used sovimanga).
