‡ (Parulidae; Ϯ Semper's Warbler L. semperi) Gr. λευκος leukos white; πεζα peza foot; "LEUCOPEZA SEMPERI, gen. et sp. nov. (Plate II.) Leucopeza*, gen. nov. ex familia Mniotiltidarum, ad Helmintherum, Helmithophagam et hujusmodi genera spectans, rostro fere similis, sed alis rotundatis, remige tertio et quarto longissimis, secundo quintum æquante, primo quam sextus paulo breviore distinguendum. Ptilosis fere unicolor, cineracea, immaculata. Pedes fortes. Tarsi elongati. Cauda paulum rotundata. LEUCOPEZA SEMPERI, sp. nov. ... * Λευκος, albus, et πεζα, pes — ex nomine vulgari "Pied-blanc."" (P. Sclater 1876); "Leucopeza P. L. Sclater, 1877, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 44 (1876), p. 14. Type, by monotypy, Leucopeza semperi Sclater." (Lowery & Monroe in Peters 1968, XIV, 49). The St Lucian endemic Semper’s Warbler is doubtless now extinct, not having been seen since 1961. According to some authorities this genus should be merged with Geothlypis.
