DEFINITIONS

CINNYCERTHIA
(Troglodytidae; Ϯ Rufous Wren C. unirufa) Portmanteau of genera Cinnyris Cuvier, 1816, sunbird, and Certhia Linnaeus, 1758, treecreeper; “Cinnycerthia cinnamomea, Lesson, g. et sp. nov.  L’oiseau qui sert de type du genre cinnycerthie tient à la fois des sucriers, des grimpereaux, des coereba et des troglodytes américains. Par son bec, c’est un sucrier ou un coereba; par ses tarses, c’est un grimpereau; par sa coloration, son port, il est presque semblable au certhia cinnamomea de Cayenne, type de notre genre certhiaxis, mais il n'a pas le sommet  des rectrices usé ou formant pointe; enfin il a des troglodytes, ces barres brunes transversales qui raient les ailes et la queue. Il s'éloigne des cœreba par son plumage à teintes mates et par sa queue étagée. Plusieurs des synnalaxes de la Bolivie, l'unirufus entre autres, pourraient appartenir à ce petit groupe.” (Lesson 1844); "Cinnycerthia Lesson, 1844, Écho du Monde Savant, 11, 2nd ser., no. 8, col. 182 (not seen, fide Sherborn).
