(Passerellidae; Ϯ Rufous-capped Brushfinch A. pileatus) Gr. myth. Atlas, a Titan king who was changed into a mountain; πετης petēs  flier  < πετομαι petomai  to fly; "Genus Atlapetes, Flatterfink. (Genus novum.)   43. Atlapetes pileatus. (Species nova.)   ...   Eine sehr characteristische Sippe; ihre Gattung ein Gemisch von Fringilla, Pipra, Euphone, Sylvia und Malurus.  Der Schnabel gänzlich der unsere  Fringilla montana, mit kleinem Zahn, (daher auch dem Schnabel der Tanagra mexicana ähnlich), die Flügel der Pipra Manacus (so kurz, stumpf und concav, daß der Vogel das mit gewiß nur flatteru [sic] kann), * die Füße durch ihre Länge, Gestalt, Krallen, gänzlich durch ihre Bedeckungsweise und den Bau der Zehen, ja selbst durch ihre Färbung die eines Malurus, der längliche Schwanz und das Gefieder einer Sylvia, vorzüglich der Sylv. atricapilla! Die Flügel reichen kaum bis zur Wurzel des Schwanzes.   ...   *Ganz ähnlich gebildete, nur zum Flattern dienliche Flügel haben die Gattungen der merkwürdigen Sippe "Pteroptochos" des Herrn. von Kittlitz."
