(Linnaeus 1758); "Buceros Linné, Syst. Nat., ed. 10, 1, 1758, p. 104. Type, by subsequent designation, Buceros rhinoceros Linné. Elliot, Monogr. Bucerot., pt. 10, 1882, p. xvi [= intro., p. xvi of volume]." (Peters, 1945, V, p. 270). This is the seventh diagnosed genus in avian taxonomy. Linnaeus's Buceros comprised two species (B. bicornis, B. Rhinoceros).
