MALIMBUS
(Ploceidae; Ϯ Crested Malimbe M. malimbicus) Malimbe or Malimba, Portuguese Congo (= Malembo, Cabinda enclave, Angola); "LE MALIMBE HUPPÉ ... LE MALIMBE, Buffon, édition de Sonnini. Malimbus cristatus.  ON trouve ce bel oiseau dans le royaume de Congo, situé sur la côte occidentale de l'Afrique; mais il n'habite que dans le temps de ses amours la contrée de Malimbe, dont M. Sonnini lui a imposé le nom.  ...  Ces oiseaux arrivent à Malimbe vers les mois d'octobre et de novembre, y font leur ponte, n'y séjournent que dans la saison de la maturité des figues, et n'y reviennent qu'à la même époque de l'année suivante." L. centralis, centrale  central, in the middle  < centrum  middle point, centre  < Gr. κεντρον kentron  sharp point, stationary point of a pair of compasses.  A good proportion of the names here refer to forms collected in "Central Africa," i.e. the eastern Congo and the Rift Valley lakes (e.g. subsp. Bradypterus baboecala, subsp. Chlorocichla flaviventris, subsp. Malimbus rubricollis, subsp. Sarothrura pulchra, subsp. Turdus pelios).  Some further examples follow.
