"Periporphyrus, Reichenb. 1850. (Pitylus, p. Gr.) ... LOXIA erythromelas, Gm. ... Fusco-ruber; subtus et in cervice ruberrimus; capite, colloque antice nigris" (Bonaparte 1850); "Periporphyrus Reichenbach, 1850, Av. Syst. Nat., pl. 77. Type, by subsequent designation (G. R.
