DEFINITIONS

PSITTACELLA
(Psittacidae; Ϯ Brehm's Tiger Parrot P. brehmii) Variation of genus Psittacula Cuvier, 1800, parakeet (cf. dim. < L. psittacus  parrot  < Gr. ψιττακος psittakos  parrot); "PSITTACELLA BREHMII, n. sp. — L'expédition Néerlandaise faite en 1870 dans l'intérieur de la presqu'île septentrionale de la Nouvelle-Guinée nous a fourni deux espèces de perroquets, nouvelles pour la science et ne rentrant précisément dans aucun des sous-genres adoptés jusqu'à ce jour. Elles paraissent, toutefois, se rattacher au sous-genre Psittacula à cause de leurs formes trapues et leur bec passablement robuste. Il est vrai que leur plumage plus ou moins sensiblement ondulé rappelle celui de certaines Euphemia, telles que l'Euphemia undulata, le Pézopore et même le Strigops; mais l'ensemble de la physionomie de ces espèces nouvelles défend de les placer parmi les Euphemia. Nous nous sommes par conséquent vus dans la nécessité, de créer, en faveur d'elles, un sous-genre à part.  Ces deux espéces ont pour caractères communs: des formes trapues, un bec passablement robuste, une queue fortement arrondie, beaucoup plus courte que les ailes et à pointe des rectrices cunéiforme, enfin une teinte générale du plumage verte, plus ou moins ondulée de noir et de jaune, passant sur le cou et la tête au vert-brun jaunâtre et remplacée, sur les couvertures inférieures de la queue, par du rouge vermillon. Notez encore que les pieds sont d'un vert jaunâtre.   ...   PSITACELLA [sic] MODESTA, n. sp. — La deuxième espèce de ce petit sous-genre" (Schlegel 1871); "Psittacella Schlegel, Nederl. Tijdschr.
