(Charadriidae; Ϯ Inland Dotterel P. australis) Gr. πελτη peltē  small rimless shield (i.e. scale); genus Hyas Gloger, 1827, Egyptian Plover; "PELTOHYAS.  Eudromias, pt., auct. recent.  ...[figure] Foot of Peltohyas australis, to show the scales on both aspects of tarsus." (Sharpe 1896); "Peltohyas Sharpe, Cat. Bds. Brit. Mus., 24, 1896, p. 307. Type, by monotypy, Eudromias australis Gould." (Peters 1934, II, 303).
