Bill compressed, the base of the culmen prolonged towards the crown of the head and dividing the frontal feathers. Wings very short; lesser quills mucronated at their tips. Tail rounded, the feathers lanceolate and pointed. Lateral toes unequal; hind-toe moderate, longer than the claw. Type.— Centrocercus urophasianus, NOB. p. 359."
