DEFINITIONS
CORYTHAEOLA
(Musophagidae; Ϯ Great Blue Turaco C. cristata) Gr. κορυθαιολος koruthaiolos with shaking plume < κορυς korus, κορυθος koruthos helmet; αιολλω aiollō to shake to and fro; "156. Turacus giganteus Bp. Consp. I. p. 87gen. 208. 6. — Hartl. Orn. Westafr. p. 159. 479. — Cassin p. 139. 158. — Musophaga cristata Vieill. Analys. p. 68. — Musophaga gigantea Id. Enc. p. 1205. — Crax cyanea J. E. Gray Griff. Anim. Kingd. tab. . . — Chizaerhis gigantea Wagl. Syst. Av. gen. Chizaerhis sp. 1. — Corythaix gigas Steph. — Gallirex giganteus Less. — Phimus giganteus Sundev. ... Auch der Name Gallirex Less., den Bonaparte auf sie übertrug, gebührt nicht ihr sondern der Musophaga porpyreolopha Vieill., einer von Corythaix persa doch wohl kaum zu sondernden Art, so dass derselbe nur als Synonym von Corythaix aufgezählt zu werden verdient. Es bleibt uns somit Nichts übrig, als einen neuen Namen für sie zu bilden und sie als Corythaeola cristata (von κορυθαιολος = κορυθαιξ) hier aufzuführen." (Heine 1860); "Corythaeola Heine, Journ. f. Orn., 8, 1860, p. 190. Type, by monotypy, Musophaga cristata Vieillot." (Peters, 1940, IV, p. 9).
Var. Corythaeolus, Corytholaea.
Synon. Chizaerhis, Schizorhis, Trinops.
