Pyrrhulagra Ϯ Cuban Bullfinch P. nigra) Gr. μελας melas, μελανος melanos black; dim. < genus Pyrrhula Brisson 1760, bullfinch; "Réservant le nom de Sporophila à ma seconde section de ce genre, j'adopte le genre Oryzoborus, de Cabanis, pour la prétendue Loxia angolensis, de Linné (torrida, Gm.), et je crée le genre Melopyrrha pour les soi-disant Bouvreuils noirs d'Amérique non encore déterminés d'une manière satisfaisante."
