(Falconidae; Ϯ Yellow-headed Caracara M. chimachima) L. milvago kite < milvus kite; -ago -resembling; "GENUS VIII. MILVAGO. Habitu Milvi; rostro Gymnopi simillimo, breviore, acuto, minus adunco et circa oculos multo minus nudo; alis longioribus, caudam breviorem aequantibus; naribus rotundis; gula non nuda. SPECIES 1. MILVAGO OCHROCEPHALUS." (von Spix 1824); "Milvago Spix, Av. Bras., 1, 1824, p. 12. Type, by monotypy, Milvago ochrocephalus Spix = Polyborus chimachima Vieillot." (Peters 1931, 1, 279).
