Myrmeciza exsul Sclater, 1858b.  ...  Distinguished from Ampelornis and Sipia by blue periorbital patch, by lack of spots or streaks on throat or underparts of female, and by loudsong structure. Differs from Ampelornis in numerous morphometric measures and proportions such as tail/wing length ratio; differences in foraging behavior supportive. Nest architecture differs from Sipia.  Etymology. The feminine generic name is taken from the Greek polios (ashy-gray) and kranion (skull, head), reflecting the gray head of the type species" (Isler et al. 2013).
